This paper is an initial research on a high-resolution model of the mesoscale circulations over Metro Manila using the Fifth-Generation PSU/NCAR Mesoscale Model (MM5). Two days in April 2002 characterized by a calm prevailing wind were simulated. The model indicated the occurrence of sea breeze during the afternoon, which could also be seen from the observations. The difference in the values of temperature, wind speed and direction reflects the need for adjustments to the model. Further studies include the use of a finer resolution land-use data and meteorological analyses and application of the Four-Dimensional Data Assimilation (FDDA) method, which incorporates observations to the model.
