Today, the Manila Observatory proudly commemorates 159 years of unwavering dedication to scientific research and service to society.
Founded in 1865, the Observatory continues to embody its mission as the science apostolate of the Society of Jesus in the Philippines, committed to addressing the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
The anniversary celebration began with a heartfelt thanksgiving mass officiated by Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, SJ, Executive Director of the Manila Observatory, followed by insightful discussions and a general assembly, reflecting on the institution’s legacy and its future direction in advancing science for the greater good.
